A long line comes down to three decisions: the length, how it attaches, and a colour you can spot in the grass.
It's the missing step between a one-metre lead and letting your dog off completely. Your dog sniffs, wanders off, comes back on its own — and if the recall fails, you're still in control. It's the essential tool for working on recall without ever risking a runaway.
5 m for the garden and the very first recalls, where you need to react quickly. 10 m for the park, the beach, the field: the all-round length. 15 m for tracking and distance work, when you really want space.
The swivel turns on itself: when your dog circles you three times, the strap doesn't twist. Over 10 m, that's the difference between a usable line and a knot to untangle on every walk.
Black is discreet and doesn't show dirt. Red is easy to spot in long grass and undergrowth — handy for seeing where the slack is, and so other walkers see the strap on the ground.
